  • Over-exposure to the sun is dangerous.
  • Avoid intensive midday sun and extensive sun exposure as even sunscreens with high SPFs do not offer a 100% protection.
  • Keep babies & small children out of direct sunlight.
  • Keep children well covered, including sun hat, t-shirt and sun glasses and use sunscreens with high SPF.
  • Apply generously before sun exposure & reapply frequently, especially after swimming, toweling and sweating to maintain the original protection. Insufficient quantity of sunscreen applied reduces the protection effect.

Frequently asked questions

What SPF sunscreen does my child need?

The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) extends the time it takes for the skin to burn by a certain factor. For example, a person who gets sunburnt after 30 minutes of sun exposure without sunscreen would not get sunburnt for 300 minutes using a sunscreen in high enough amounts with a sun protection factor of 30. However, it is best to only stay in the sun for up to 60% of this time, and remember that skin damage can occur even before sunburn is visible.

Eucerin Kids Micropigment Sun Lotion SPF 25 is a medium UVA/UVB protection sunscreen to protect small children over 6 months from  indirect sun exposure. If you want a very high UVA/UVB protection sunscreen for children over 1 year old, try either Eucerin Kids Sun Spray SPF 50+ or Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+. Do not expose babies or small children to direct sun light.

Why does sensitive skin need special suncare?

Given its weakened protective barrier, sensitive skin is more vulnerable to irritants. It is therefore important that sun protection is specifically formulated for, and tested on, sensitive skin and that its properties answer the particular needs of the condition.

Is Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+ suitable for young children?

Yes Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+ is suitable for children over 1 year old.

Why are children more sensitive to sun light?

Children’s skin, like many of their organs, is still developing. The thickness of their epidermis is a fifth of that of an adult’s skin, while their overall surface area to volume ratio is much higher than that of an adult. Also, their skin barrier function and self-protection mechanisms (especially melanin synthesis) are not fully developed. Sun-induced skin damage in childhood puts them at a much higher risk of further skin damage in later life. Eucerin Kids Micropigment Sun Lotion SPF 25 is a medium UVA/UVB protection sunscreen designed to protect from indirect sun exposure. If you want a very high UVA/UVB protection sunscreen for children try either Eucerin Kids Sun Spray SPF 50+ or Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+. Do not expose babies and young children to direct sun light. Read more about children´s skin.

What is the difference between the Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion and Eucerin Kids Sun Spray formulations?

Both products, Eucerin Kids Sun Spray SPF 50+ and Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+, offer a very high UV protection. The only difference is in the mode of application; Eucerin Kids Sun Spray SPF 50+ is an easy-to-apply spray and Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+ is a fast absorbing lotion that is applied by hand.

What is the difference between Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+ and Eucerin Kids Micropigment Sun Lotion SPF 25?

Eucerin Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50+ is very high UVA/UVB protection sunscreen for small children over 1 year. Eucerin Kids Micropigment Lotion SPF 25 is a medium UVA/UVB protection sunscreen designed specifically to protect the delicate, sensitive skin of babies between 6 to 12 months from indirect sun exposure. It does not contain chemical filters or other irritating ingredients.

What is the difference between mineral and chemical UVA/UVB filters, and which one should I use?

Chemical filters are absorbed by the skin and transform UV rays into harmless innocuous warmth, whereas mineral filters remain on the surface of the skin and reflect and scatter UV rays that reach the surface of the skin. While chemical filters are generally considered to be safe, the use of mineral filters is advisable in case of intolerance towards chemical filters or for sun protection for babies and toddlers, whose skin is highly sensitive.

What is the difference between UVA and UVB rays?

Long wave UVA (Ultraviolet A) rays emitted by the sun penetrate deeply into the skin and are the originating factor of oxidative stress in the skin. They play a greater role in long-term sun damage and are a major cause of skin ageing and skin cancer. In addition, UVA rays may trigger polymorphic light eruption (PLE), the so-called sun allergy. Short wave UVB (Ultraviolet B) rays, on the contrary, cause immediate visible damage to the skin, leading to what we usually refer to as sunburn. It penetrates the skin less deeply than UVA but is the main responsibility for cellular DNA damage.
