What is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E (also known as Tocopherol) is a powerful anti-oxidant that protects skin against the free radicals that cause oxidative stress and helps to support its natural resilience.

What is Vitamin E

What is Vitamin C?

Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid and L-ascorbic acid although these are actually different forms of the vitamin) is an essential nutrient for overall health and the health of our skin.

Vitamin C is key to collagen synthesis in skin cells. As one of skin’s natural filler substances, collagen gives young skin its firm structure and even appearance but degrades over time. Much of this degradation is caused by free radicals which damage the cells that produce collagen. Vitamin C is also a powerful anti-oxidant and helps to protect skin from free radical damage.

The human body cannot produce Vitamin C itself and so relies on external sources, the most common of which are dietary sources such as citrus fruits. Vitamin C is also an effective ingredient in skincare where it strengthens and ultimately protects the epidermis, keeping skin looking radiant and fresh. One of its forms, L-ascorbic acid, is more active and more widely researched and proven as a skincare ingredient than others. Eucerin uses L-ascorbic acid in Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Vitamin C Booster. Another form of Vitamin C, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, is more suitable for a lip care product and is used in Eucerin Aquaphor SOS Lip Balm.

What is Vitamin C?

What are Oligo Peptides?

Oligo Peptides stimulate the collagen network responsible for a firmer skin structure. They also improve collagen synthesis in the dermal layers of skin, thereby strengthening the dermal connective tissue1. They are extracted from the fruit and seeds of the Anise plant, which was originally cultivated for its skin-enhancing properties and are also known as Pimpinella Anisum Fruit Extract.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic Acid is formed by skin cells and is part of the connective tissue of the skin. One of its key functions is to retain moisture, and it has the ability to bind in between 1,000 and 10,000 times its own weight in water (i.e. one gram binds between one and ten liters). As we age, the skin's natural ability to produce Hyaluronic Acid decreases and wrinkles start to form and deepen.

High and low molecular Hyaluronic Acid
Eucerin uses two different types of Hyaluronic Acid in the Hyaluron-Filler¹, Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity, Anti-Pigment Dual Serum and Sun Photoaging Control formulas to effectively target and plump wrinkles from the inside out:

  • High molecular Hyaluronic Acid (also known as long-chained Hyaluronic Acid). This remains on skin’s surface and works to improve hydration in the outermost layer of the epidermis – where fine lines and winkles originate.
  • Low molecular Hyaluronic Acid(also known as short-chained Hyaluronic Acid). With molecules that are 40 times smaller² than those of high molecular Hyaluronic Acid, low molecular Hyaluronic Acid penetrates further into the epidermal layers where it stimulates skin’s own production of Hyaluronic Acid, replenishing moisture where deeper wrinkles originate.

The Eucerin DermatoCLEAN range of cleansers includes low molecular Hyaluronic Acid.

1 The standard unit for measuring the mass of an atom is a kilo Dalton (kDa). High molecular Hyaluronic Acid has a kDa of 2000 and low molecular Hyaluronic Acid has a kDa of 52. Both are contained in the Hyaluron-Filler, Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity and Sun Photoaging Control formulas.

2 Excluding Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler Vitamin C Booster which contains low molecular Hyaluronic Acid.

What is Panthenol/Dexpanthenol?

Panthenol and Dexpanthenol are two names commonly used for the same ingredient. Panthenol converts into Pantothenic Acid (a B Complex Vitamin) in the skin and enhances skin regeneration and repair. When applied regularly, it has been proven to considerably improve symptoms of skin irritation such as dryness, roughness, scaling and redness.

Panthenol/Dexpanthenol is also an effective moisturizer. It improves hydration in the outermost layers of the skin and helps to reduce transepidermal water loss.

Introducing Biotin

Biotin (also known as Vitamin B7) is a water-soluble vitamin that strengthens skin, nails and hair. Biotin activates skin’s own production of lipids (fat), which helps it to return to its natural, healthy looking condition and act as a protective barrier against the outside world.

conical flask with Biotin (Vitamin B7)

Introducing B-Resorcinol

B-Resorcinol is an inhibitor of tyrosinase, the enzyme that forms melanin. Thus, B-Resorcinol reduces melanin production.

Strengthens the skin's natural structure

Apiaceae-Peptides (a type of Oligo Peptide) are extracted from the and seeds of the Anise plant, originally cultivated in Egypt for their beneficial healing properties. These naturally active molecules have been proven to increase levels of enzymes in the skin which are essential to break down and remove damaged cell matter for quicker, more efficient skin renewal.

The presence of Apiaceae-Peptides also strengthens the dermal junction between the skin's layers, reinforcing and stabilising weak and porous connective tissue - resulting in improved microcirculation, increased skin density, beneficial skin properties, a more efficient skin cell renewal and a more radiant appearance.

What is Arctiin?

Arctiin is a naturally-derived active extracted from the fruit of the Burdock plant. It stimulates the repair of weakened connective tissue in the cell walls. Arctiin also accelerates the collagen renewal process in skin cells which slows dramatically as we age. Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity Day SPF 15 and Eucerin Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity Night with Arctiin improve elasticity and firmness in mature skin.

What is Arctiin

What is Magnolol?

Magnolol is a highly effective active ingredient extracted from the bark of the Magnolia tree and is also known as Magnolia Officinalis Bark Extract. It triggers the excretion of a bio-active substance in the dermal layers of skin which increases the synthesis of collagen and stimulates the number and size of volume-giving cells, "plumping" areas of diminished volume (1).
1 In-vitro studies

Effectively stimulates and enhances Hyaluronic Acid production

Soy-derived bio-active Glycine-Saponin is proven as one of the most effective substances for stimulating natural Hyaluronic Acid production in the skin. It stimulates fibroblasts, the skin cells responsible for dermal Hyaluronic Acid production, to boost synthesis of new Hyaluronic Acid by up to 256% (in vitro).

Energises and defends against free-radical damage

Coenzyme Q10 is a substance found naturally in the body that helps cells convert nutrients into energy. In skin it works to re-energise cells, "recharging" their regenerative potential to make them stronger and function more efficiently.

It also has potent antioxidant qualities, which give it the ability to neutralise cell damaging free-radicals caused by the external environmental factors, like UV and pollution, that contribute to collagen and elastin breakdown.

As we age, Coenzyme Q10 levels decrease so cells become less able to regenerate and defend themselves naturally. As a result skin ages prematurely and becomes more prone to lines and wrinkles.
